Shanooj Aboobacker is the VP of the Fitness Division for Body Abs Fitness Centre, a popular gym with over 10 years of experience and five branches across Abu Dhabi. After being made redundant by the finance company he worked for over 13 years, Shanooj reignited his passion for fitness and training.
“My motivation towards fitness was there since my childhood. I was an athlete – I played soccer and cricket, and have been going to the gym since I was 19 years old. I always found time to go to the gym, even when I started my banking career and never stopped going even when I was jobless for three months.”
“One day my wife told me, ‘why don’t you choose training as your career if you are so interested in it?’ I did some research on Google into getting certified as a Personal Trainer which is how I came about the Active IQ PT Diploma.”
After completing his Level 3 Personal Training qualification with Active IQ, Shanooj began doing freelance training when he was offered the role of Fitness Centre Manager at Body Abs Fitness Centre. Through applying his knowledge from his diploma, Shanooj has progressed to become the VP of the Fitness Division at Body Abs Fitness and aims to continue growing the company with higher standards.
“I highly suggest anyone thinking about becoming a personal trainer to get their diploma if they are really passionate about their career in fitness.”
After market analysis found that many qualified PTs are still in search of employment, Shanooj and the team at Body Abs Fitness Centre plan to provide employment for candidates who complete their PT diploma with Leen Academy at any of their fitness centres to help employ qualified, high-quality PTs in their gyms.
“Our focus is to drive face-to-face sessions, which will be more interactive so it is important our tutors are able to read students’ body language and observe their interests.
